Buying into a Company Title property

UNDERSTANDING THE LANDSCAPE

Company Title is a form of land ownership applicable to properties in Sydney, prior to the introduction of strata title in 1961.

  • A Company owns the building as well as the land which it occupies.
  • The Company's affairs are governed by its individual "Articles of Association" and "Rules and Regulations".
  • The Company has a Board of Directors which are elected by its shareholders and registered with ASIC.

WHAT DO YOU OWN?

Shareholders may purchase "shares" in the Company, which provides them with the exclusive occupation of an apartment in the building on the land, as opposed to ownership of the unit itself.
